I grew up in a small town, Harpursville, which is outside of Binghamton. As long as I can remember, I wanted to be a teacher. Following a year after high school as a Rotary Exchange student in Bolivia, I attended SUNY Geneseo. I received a B.S.Ed in Elementary and Special Education with a major in Spanish and a minor in Medieval Studies (that part was just for fun!). I finished student teaching on a Friday afternoon and began as a special education teacher in Sherburne-Earlville on the following Monday. I received my M.S. Ed. in Special Education from Binghamton University in 1986. I taught special education for 5 years and middle and high school Spanish for 17 years before moving into administrative work. I became the Elementary Principal at the Edward R. Andrews Elementary School in 2005.
I live in Sherburne. I have 4 children. The eldest, Stephen, is an attorney. Christopher is a 2011 graduate of Hartwick College and is currently substitute teaching. Margaret igraduated from Brown University this spring and is working at MIT and Meghan is a sophomore at Hartwick. My first grandchild, Gavin, was born this spring. I am engaged to Thom Bigelow.
Outside of school, I like to garden, travel, and read non-fiction. I am enjoying my children as adults, especially seeing my son parent his own child.
I am a member of the Morrisville-Eaton PTO and the Morrisville Lions' Club. This year, I am serving as Lions Club President. I am very fortunate to be part of the Morrisville-Eaton learning community.
